CALM Alpha is a two day residential conference to be held on the 16th and 17th of Feburary 2012 at Wokefield Park in the United Kingdom. The “faculty” for CALM Alpha consists of:

CALM Alpha was born out of an exploratory meeting, held in Almens, Switzerland, between a group of like-minded thinkers, researchers & practitioners in Social Complexity, Agile and Lean. The intent was to explore ways of growing the application of Complexity Science to meet the challenges facing modern organisations, and in particular, those adopting Agile and Lean ways of working.

The goal of the faculty is to grow a community of thinkers, practitioners, and researchers who further the application of Complexity Science in Software Development as well as in the larger organisation. We want to use the experience of the real-world application of principles based on validated theory to help both theory and practice co-evolve.

The CALM Alpha two-day event is the first step towards establishing that community.

The faculty will present our current understanding and experiences of the relationship between Agile and Lean practice, and Complexity. We will also open up issues and opportunities to more tightly link Agile/Lean initiatives with other aspects of an organisation, such as HR Policy and Strategy. Some of the material will be theoretical and some practical. We expect to be challenged, heckled, as well as validated. At the end of event, we hope to have directions for further research, further events, the seeds of a curriculum, and also the basis for new community.

The event is residential, and meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch) and one night’s accommodation are included in the price of your ticket. If you require additional nights, you'll need to organise this yourself. We expect attendees to stay overnight. We’re keeping prices as low as we can for this first event
